victim triangle
eugene linked to an article the other day.
the victim triangle
i found it quite informative and accurate, in my opinion.
so now, i need to figure out how to get off the triangle.
the article talks about rescuers, and how they only feel good about themselves when they are able to rescue someone. it says they create the classic co-dependent relationships. and then when they get stepped on one too many times, their mantra is: how could you do this to me? after all i've done for you? at that point they move to the next corner on the triangle, the corner of victim. they become a martyr. the rescuer becomes a persecutor when she refuses to do anymore for the co-dependent, because she now sees herself as the victim in need of protection.
i saw myself in that article, many times.
